When children and teens regularly attend school in person, they’re more likely to develop their whole selves—personally, socially, academically, and emotionally. They’re routinely able to connect with friends and adults, collaborate and problem-solve, make decisions, think critically, be creative, engage in hands-on learning, AND graduate on time. In other words … Attendance Matters®!
Attendance Matters® Mentoring Program
Since 2021-2022, the Attendance Matters® Mentoring program has connected 990 chronically absent middle school students with a trained adult mentor to help improve their attendance, attitudes toward school, and future success. Last year, 55% of students enrolled in the program were no longer chronically absent at the end of the school year.
Apply now to be a paid Attendance Matters® Mentor and make a Difference in the Lives of Local Students!
We are hiring six local adults to serve as mentors to support chronically absent students, or students at risk of becoming chronically absent, at local middle and elementary schools. Mentors support attendance initiatives at their school, provide individual support and mentoring to enrolled students, and coordinate a group mentoring program at their assigned school.
This is an in-person, part-time position during the school year. Mentors will receive training and support to help students build social connections and develop positive attitudes toward school attendance. Since Mentors work with minors, each finalist for this role must successfully pass a background investigation before completing training to equip their work in the school.
